Ford Warning Lamps and Indicators

Ford Warning Lamps and Indicators
Warning lamps and indicators alert you to a vehicle condition that may become serious. Some lamps illuminate when you start your vehicle to make sure they work.
If any lamps remain on after starting your vehicle, refer to the list below for more information. For a complete list, refer to your Ford Owner Manuals.
Anti-Lock Braking System
When illuminated, this indicates a system error. Normal braking (without ABS) will continue unless the brake system warning lamp also illuminates. It is recommended to have the system checked by a Ford Dealer.
Battery
If illuminated while driving, this indicates a system error. It is recommended to switch off all unnecessary electrical equipment and have the system checked by a Ford Dealer.

Brake System Warning Lamp
If this indicator illuminates while moving, the parking brake may be engaged. Check to make sure the parking brake is off. It is recommended to have your vehicle checked as soon as possible if the indicator remains illuminated.
Warning: Driving your vehicle with the warning lamp on is dangerous. A significant decrease in braking performance may occur. It may take you longer to stop your vehicle. Have your vehicle checked as soon as possible. Driving extended distances with the parking brake engaged can cause brake failure and the risk of personal injury
This lamp is a dual function lamp and illuminates when:
You apply the parking brake with the ignition on.
Your vehicle has a brake fault or low brake fluid level, regardless of parking brake position.

Electric Park Brake
When this indicator is illuminated or is flashing, the electric parking brake has a system error.
Engine or Motor Coolant Temperature
This indicator illuminates when your vehicle coolant temperature is high. Stop your vehicle as soon as possible, switch off your vehicle, and let it cool.
Engine Oil
If this indicator illuminates while the engine is running or while you are driving, this means there is a system error. Stop your vehicle as soon as possible to do so safely and switch the engine off. Once stopped, check the engine oil level.
Note: Even if the engine oil level is correct, do not resume your journey if it is still illuminated. Have the system checked by a Ford Dealer immediately.
Front Airbag
If it does not illuminate when you switch the ignition on, continues to flash, or remains on when the engine is running, this indicates a malfunction. Have your vehicle checked as soon as possible.
High Voltage Electric System Failure
This indicator illuminates if your hybrid electric vehicle has an electrical component fault or failure that causes your vehicle to shut down or enter a limited operating mode. In the instrument cluster display, a message may appear regarding this failure.
Low Beam Warning
Illuminates when the low beam headlamp bulb is not functioning properly.
Low Tire Pressure Warning
This indicator illuminates when the tire pressure is low or TPMS sensor is malfunctioning. If the light remains illuminated with the engine running or when driving, check the tire pressure as soon as possible.
Powertrain Fault
When this indicator illuminates, the system has detected a powertrain or a 4WD/AWD fault. It is recommended to contact a Ford Dealer as soon as possible.
Service Engine Soon
It illuminates when you switch the ignition on prior to engine start to check the bulb and to indicate whether your vehicle is ready for Inspection and Maintenance (I/M) testing.
Normally, it illuminates until the engine is cranked and automatically turns off if no system errors are present. However, if after 15 seconds it flashes eight times, this indicates that your vehicle is not ready for Inspection and Maintenance (I/M) testing.
If it illuminates when the engine is running this indicates a system error. The On-Board Diagnostics system has detected an error in the vehicle emission control system.
If it flashes, an engine misfire may be occurring. Continuing to drive your vehicle may cause reduced power or the engine to stop. Failure to respond to the warning lamp may cause component damage not covered by the vehicle warranty. Have your vehicle checked as soon as possible.
Traction Control
This indicator flashes when the system senses wheel slippage and will engage power to the wheel to maintain traction. If it remains illuminated or does not illuminate when you switch the ignition on, this indicates a system error. If there is a system error, the system switches off. Have the system checked by a Ford Dealer immediately.
Traction Control Off
This indicator illuminates when you switch the system off. It goes out when you switch the system back on or when you switch the ignition off.
