Brake Service: Keeping Your Vehicle Safe
Larry H. Miller Ford Draper is ready to help you take care of your brakes.
Bringing your car to a stop is as important as any other function that you rely on. Engineers have put extensive research and development into creating as effective braking systems as possible in modern vehicles. While brakes are now better than ever, they still require upkeep to continue functioning as intended.
What Services are Needed to Maintain Your Car's Brakes?
Brake service and maintenance requirements can vary from model to model. But most vehicles on the road today will end up needing similar care.
Replace Brake Pads: Since brake pads take most of the friction of the braking process and are designed to wear down accordingly, they're the most commonly replaced components. You can expect to need new brake pads several times throughout the lifespan of a vehicle.
Replace Brake Rotors/Discs: Brake rotors - or discs - usually last longer than brake pads. Rotors can typically stick around for tens of thousands of miles, but they do tend to warp over time. Warped rotors aren't as effective and will need to be replaced. You can tell if it's time to install new rotors if you feel pulsating or grinding with brake pressure.
Brake Fluid Service: Braking systems use hydraulic pressure to engage and disengage. That means you'll need to have the proper levels of brake fluid in the system in order to get peak performance. Your technician can check to see if you need brake fluid during the inspection process. This process can also identify leaks in the brake lines or master cylinder.
